The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said a driver crashed into a home near Spengler and Cliffcrest Drive at around 5:30 a.m.

A family is still in shock after a car flew through a window into a south Sacramento County home.

The whole family was home, including a mother and her 5 children. Luckily, no one was hurt.

It started with traffic stop about a block away, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office.

"Our deputy spotted a car that was speeding, driving a little erratic, and attempted to pull it over," said Sgt. Amar Gandhi.

However, he said, the driver tried to speed off.

The suspect had one passenger in the car with him as he drove up a grassy hill at the end of Spengler Drive near Cliffcrest Drive, launching the car through a fence and then through the window of a home at about 5:30 a.m. on Sunday.

"Yeah, it was wild," said Serena Garcia, who lives nearby. "It was a ‘Dukes of Hazard’ type thing. It was just up and in. It was crazy."

Some said it sounded like an explosion.

"The car went through the stove and refrigerator, pushed all that into the living room," Garcia said. "It's like that whole area was completely wiped out."

Despite demolishing much of the first floor, the car missed the rooms where, a woman said, her adult son and daughter were.

The impact knocked down the staircase, trapping the mom and her three younger kids on the second floor, but they eventually got help to get out through a window. "They've got a long road ahead and all because of the idiotic actions of this one guy," Sgt. Gandhi said.

Deputies arrested 23-year-old Isaiah Patten on suspicion of evading police, carrying a loaded gun, having a concealed gun in the car and drunk driving.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said no one was hurt, including the suspected driver and passenger in the car that crashed.
